Julia Barton, Heavy Plant Crossing
Heavy Plant Crossing is a participatory walking performance by artist Julia Barton, who has created a mechanical plant on wheels made from recycled objects.
On 21st and 22nd June 2013 Julia invited visitors to join her on a plant-finding expedition with a difference through Wallington ’s woodlands and gardens.
On the first day children and staff from Cambo First School helped Julia to create her ‘plant’. They all set off on an expedition together down through Wallington’s gardens and into the depths of the East Wood. The next day, Saturday 22nd June, Julia continued her journey into the Walled Garden and throughout the day was joined at various points by members of the public who were visiting the gardens.
Throughout the journey, the artist drew inspiration from the original expeditions which were supported by the Trevelyan family, who were passionate about the garden and plants at their Wallington home.
Organised by Visual Arts in Rural Communities in collaboration with National Trust Wallington.
