Layerscape (peat bogs) is a 16mm, 15-minute colour film with sound. The footage was filmed by Laura Harrington in collaboration with Sarah Bouttell and Deborah Bower and the sound with Lee Patterson.
The film Layerscape (peat bogs) is an immersive journey into the upland peatlands of the North Pennines and Northumberland in North East England; capturing the visual and sonic essence of such landscapes and their environmental importance. Filmed over a year the style is slow, inspired by the actual collecting of footage over twelve months and the decomposition and layering of vegetation over thousands of years. The work was premiered in a bothy (temporarily the highest cinema in England) on March 18 2012 as part of AV Festival 12: As Slow As Possible. The bothy is in the heart of Moor House National Nature Reserve where filming and recording began in February 2011.
