Fund supports new artwork by Northumberland-based artists

VARC is providing a fund of £5000 available once a year (maximum of £2,500 per applicant), to support new work by Northumberland-based artists. This fund does not offer accommodation or studio space, but will provide an artist with the freedom to develop a new project or piece of work that they may not otherwise be able to make. Applications are welcomed from individual artists who live and/or are based in Northumberland who would be interested in creating artwork that responds to the landscapes or communities of the North Tyne, Tarset or Redesdale.

The project would need to be completed within a year of the grant being made and the work, once completed, would need to be exhibited or publicly displayed in some way in either Tarset, North Tyne or Redesdale. VARC would work with the artist to promote this occasion.

To apply, artists should send a C.V, along with a short proposal with between 5 and 15 images on CD with titles, dates, dimensions and descriptions on a separate sheet OR, if more appropriate, clips on DVD totalling no more than 10 minutes duration.

A written statement should also be provided, and should consist of no more than one page describing the work, why it is important and reasons for applying for this fund. A budget should be included that shows amounts to cover the artist’s time developing and creating the work, materials and presentation costs. The deadline is 30th June 2009.
