VARC is making use of the studio empty for a couple of weeks, to welcome groups to Highgreen to explore and make art.
Last week we welcomed students and staff from Thornhill Park School in Sunderland. They made some wonderful ‘forest folk’ from wood they’d collected on site and with sacking and string and using saws, hammers and nails. Ably led by artists Karen Rann and Keith Barratt the results were stunning. Pizzas cooked in the outdoor oven added to the fun.
Zoe Childerley continues work on her Debatable Lands project in advance of an exhibition at The Granary, Berwick upon Tweed in November. She is spending a bit of time at Highgreen leading related workshops in border towns. On Friday Zoe will be leading a workshop here at Highgreen making personal maps with fifteen members of Sangini Women’s Art Group from Sunderland.
And at the beginning of August members of the teenagers holiday club and staff from Pathways4All will be coming up for a visit and to make art. This will complete a project in which artist Helen Pailing has been visiting their Centre and working with children and families there to make a sensory relief panel for the Centre’s corridor. See https://varc.org.uk/projects/pathways4all/ for more about this.
