Robbie Wild Hudson – New Paintings

Robbie is nearing the completion of his project with funding from VARC’s Artists’ Projects Fund.

These Paintings are representations of the experience of swimming the 7.3 mile distance of Lake Ullswater in Cumbria.  The organic shapes that make up the background come from submerging the canvases in the Lake itself and letting these forms grow naturally.  These were then worked up with layers of inks into fleshy colours to suggest the physical, gutsy side of actually completing the swim.  The lines and chains of reflected, brightly coloured triangles alluding to the many different practice routes during training through the body of the water, psychological tricks of imagining swimming to triangular points hovering above the water like small mountains, breaking the distance down into more manageable chunks.
