In November 2020, Sam Douglas spent time with pupils at Hexham Middle School working on a giant collaborative pastel mural. The scenes were inspired by the local landscape of Northumberland and townscape of Hexham. The students were encouraged to think about the wildlife they might encounter and added birds and animals. They experimented with texture using pastels donated from Unison Colour. Some of the comments included: “I enjoyed it because it was different and exciting. I enjoyed the freedom and creativity” and “I enjoyed it because we could draw with a professional artist…I had fun using the pastels.”
