VARC Exhibition Weekend Information

The Exhibition Weekend is open 1 – 6pm both days in and around the Artist’s Studio and outbuildings at Highgreen, Tarset, Hexham, Northumberland, NE48 1RP.

View contemporary art in outbuildings, find sculptures on the moors, hear artists’ talks or be creative with drop in art activity suitable for all ages. You can also see our outdoor earth oven in use and enjoy all events, refreshments and activities FREE in celebration of Great Northumberland 2018.

Artists showing work: Joo-Hee Yang, Claudia Sacher, Karen Melvin and Grace Warde-Aldam with moorland sculptures to find by Khosro Adibi and art activity led by Megan Randall.

Joo-Hee Yang, born and brought up in Seoul, Korea, exhibits work made during her VARC residency at Highgreen, 2017-2018.

Karen Melvin, Claudia Sacher and Grace Warde-Aldam are Northumberland-based artists who have created new work in an uninhabited cottage at Highgreen, No 3: stories in a house retold. Sacher and Melvin have used the bare plaster walls of the house as a surface to work onto. Sacher’s charcoal and ink drawings of human/spirit forms fill the rooms. Karen Melvin has used drawing and photography to make dream-like montage images. Grace Warde-Aldam introduces A life Unworn,  that examines how our possessions and domestic spaces speak in our absence. Khosro Adibi’s carved stone pieces can be found on the fells, during a 1 – 2 hour walk.

Timetable for both days:

Exhibition open: 1 – 6pm
Drop-in art activity with artist Megan Randall: 1 – 6pm
