VARC supports two projects from its Artist’s Fund

The Artists’ Projects Fund this year is supporting projects proposed by artists based in Cumbria, the Scottish Borders, Tyne and Wear as well as Northumberland.  The deadline at the end of October brought a number of applications.  From amongst these VARC has chosen to support two projects:

Artist, Mike Collier, will organise and undertake a series of guided walks for groups led by an ornithologist and botanist from the mount of th etyne to Thorneyburn in Tarset (ending up at Unison Colour hose artists’ pastels Mike uses exclusively in his work). From the material collated during the walks Mike will make work for a new exhibition and a publication.

Laura Harrington will make a short film that looks at the landscape of peatlands and its natural plant, animal and human communities.  It will combine new footage with animation, images, botanical drawings and field and hydrophone recordings.
